Properly installed firestop systems help maintain the fire-resistance rating of walls, floors, joints, and penetrations. This work plays a critical role in limiting the spread of fire, smoke, and toxic gases through a building.
Local 7 members are trained to install firestop systems with the skill, care, and professionalism needed on commercial, industrial, marine, healthcare, education, public works, and high-occupancy projects.
What is FRMA?
FRMA stands for Fire-Resistant Materials Applicator. In Washington State, certified FRMA workers are trained to properly install firestop systems and fire-resistant materials in accordance with approved systems, project specifications, and applicable code requirements.
Why Certified Firestop Matters
Firestopping is not simply filling a hole with material. It requires knowledge of listed systems, rated assemblies, annular space, penetrations, joint systems, manufacturer requirements, inspection expectations, and proper installation procedures.
Incorrect or unqualified firestop installation can lead to failed inspections, project delays, costly rework, and serious life-safety concerns once a building is occupied.
Life Safety FocusedFirestop protects rated assemblies and helps limit fire and smoke movement.
